Uber is set to lay off around 200–250 employees in India as part of a global restructuring aimed at simplifying its organisational structure and reducing management layers, according to an ET report. The India cuts are expected to affect teams across its People and Earners organisations. Globally, Uber is eliminating around 3,300 roles, or roughly 10% of its workforce, in its largest workforce reduction since the Covid-19 pandemic. The restructuring will involve consolidating teams and reducing management layers as Uber reallocates resources towards its mobility, delivery and autonomous vehicle businesses. The move comes as Uber looks to streamline its organisation after years of expansion. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has said the company’s growth has led to additional management layers, fragmented ownership and teams that no longer align with its current scale. The India layoffs reportedly include some engineers working on Uber’s internal recruitment platform. Employees have received layoff communications, with more notifications expected, the report said.
