Restaurant operators in Bengaluru have planned a boycott of Swiggy from August 15, citing that hefty commissions, sharp discounts and unfair deductions are affecting their companies. The associations have asked open pricing, fair contracts, dedicated relationship managers and more. After August 15, the Bengaluru restaurant owners' organisation has vowed to boycott Swiggy unless their requests are met. Restaurant revenues are allegedly being hit hard by the platform's heavy commissions, steep discounts, and numerous deductions, prompting the protest. In their agreement with Swiggy, restaurant owners have sought openness and fairness. Therefore, the company is advised to refrain from providing discounts without the approval of its restaurant partners. They have also pushed for more openness on the costs of advertisements and payment processors. Swiggy has received important requests from the restaurant owners. Among these requests is the elimination of any pre-emptive charges in response to consumer complaints. In addition, business owners believe that eateries shouldn't lose money when customers cancel orders after they've already been made. Additionally, these eateries would like to see an end to one-sided agreement conditions and a comprehensive settlement report covering all deductions. Finally, each restaurant must have a designated relationship manager. Management from Swiggy is being asked by the association to meet with representatives from restaurants. They gave restaurants until August 15 to respond before they would leave the platform and shut down the entire city. According to P.C. Rao, Honorary President of the Bengaluru Hotel Association, restaurant owners are suffering financially due to Swiggy's allegedly unscientific deductions. After paying all of their bills (commissions, discounts, etc.), restaurants only end up with about INR 40,000 (after generating INR 1 lakh in revenue), according to Rao. Restaurant owners and patrons alike are suffering under the present system, according to Rao. Additionally, he mentioned that the National Restaurant & Bar Association, the Bengaluru Hotel Association, and the Karnataka Hotel Association have banded together to combat the matter. Based on Rao's statement, restaurant owners are open to maintaining their collaboration with Swiggy, provided that the unscientific deductions are discontinued. In any case, they will unsubscribe from Swiggy and Zomato following the deadline of August 15. As competition heats up in India's fast-growing online food delivery market, Walmart-owned Flipkart will join the fray in the coming weeks. With this move, it will join forces with Zomato and Swiggy to challenge the status quo. In an interview with a media house, Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy announced that the firm will soon debut its meal delivery service. Flipkart will launch food delivery first, as it does with all of its products, to gauge customer interest, gather feedback, and refine the offering
