Go Digit reports 38% decline in Q1 FY27 profit as claims surge

Go Digit General Insurance reported a 7.6% year-on-year increase in its net premium during Q1 FY27. However, its profit declined 37.7% during the same period. The company's net premium rose to Rs 2,007 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 1,865 crore in Q1 FY26, according to its regulatory filings. Meanwhile, gross premium fell 8.4% to Rs 2,731 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 2,982 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, as per its quarterly results filed with the NSE. Motor insurance continued to be Go Digit's largest business segment, contributing Rs 1,510 crore in premium, followed by health insurance at Rs 366 crore. The company also generated premium from fire, corporate, marine, crop, and other insurance segments. Income from investments increased to Rs 352 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 314 crore in the year-ago quarter. Supported by gains from its investment portfolio and other non-operating income, the company's total income grew to Rs 2,359 crore during the quarter. On the expense side, commission and brokerage costs rose to Rs 615 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 572 crore in Q1 FY26. Employee benefit expenses increased 10% to Rs 99 crore from Rs 90 crore a year earlier. Claims paid surged 16% to Rs 1,046 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 902 crore in the same quarter last year. As a result, total expenses rose 11.2% to Rs 2,289 crore from Rs 2,058 crore. The increase in claims and operating expenses weighed on the company's profitability, with net profit declining 37.7% to Rs 86 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 138 crore in Q1 FY26. Go Digit's shares closed at Rs 283 per share at the end of Thursday's trading session, giving the company a market capitalization of Rs 26,166 crore (around $2.7 billion).
