Climate-tech startup CarbonStrong has raised Rs 12.5 crore in a seed funding round led by IAN Angel Fund, with participation from Rainmatter, Social Alpha, Spectrum Impact and Full Circle Ventures. The proceeds will be used to set up its first production facility, expand the team, develop and test products, and scale from customer trials to commercial production, CarbonStrong said in a press release. Founded in 2022 by Harsh Jain and Vikramaditya Singh, CarbonStrong produces low-carbon binders by upcycling industrial waste to replace up to 50% of cement in concrete. The company claims its solution reduces costs and carbon emissions while maintaining concrete performance without requiring changes to existing plants or processes. The Bengaluru-based startup said it has conducted several customer trials and paid pilots, with its materials used in demonstration projects across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. It is also targeting precast concrete and paver block manufacturers and aims to build an annual production capacity of up to 100,000 tonnes over the next two years. Cement accounts for over 8% of global CO2 emissions, while existing solutions have limited capacity to replace it without compromising performance. CarbonStrong converts industrial waste from sectors such as coal and steel into cementitious materials that can replace a larger share of cement. Other startups in the space include GreenJams, which develops low-carbon construction materials using crop residues and industrial by-products, and CarbonCraft, which uses construction and industrial waste for geopolymer-based wall claddings and other building products. The sector has also attracted institutional backing. In February, the Technology Development Board (TDB) extended financial assistance to CarbonCraft to commercialise its ultra-low-carbon wall claddings. In June 2026, CarbonStrong and Satiq Concrete Manufacturer were among nine climate-tech startups selected for urban sustainability deployments, with grants of up to Rs 35 lakh.
