Urban Company posts 92 Cr loss on Rs 528 Cr revenue in Q1 FY27

Home services marketplace Urban Company reported a strong 44% year-on-year growth in operating revenue in Q1 FY27. However, the company slipped into a loss of Rs 92 crore during the quarter amid its continued push for InstaHelp. According to the company’s quarterly financial results, Urban Company's revenue from operations rose to Rs 528 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 367 crore in the same quarter last year, according to its unaudited financial results sourced from the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The India Consumer Services business, excluding InstaHelp, remained Urban Company's largest revenue contributor, accounting for more than 67% of its operating revenue. Revenue from the segment grew 31% year-on-year to Rs 356 crore during the quarter. The company's Native brands business recorded a 58% year-on-year increase in revenue to Rs 95 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 60 crore in the year-ago period, while its international business grew 81% to contribute Rs 65 crore. Meanwhile, InstaHelp, Urban Company's quick-service housekeeping vertical launched in March last year, generated Rs 11.11 crore in revenue during the quarter. However, the segment reported an EBITDA loss of Rs 131.58 crore, up 11% sequentially from Rs 118.73 crore in Q4 FY26. The company also earned Rs 38 crore from non-operating sources during the quarter, taking its overall income to Rs 566 crore. On a quarterly basis, overall revenue grew by 23% from Rs 462 crore in Q4 FY26. On the expense side, Urban Company's employee benefit expenses rose 53% year-on-year to Rs 151 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 99 crore in the same quarter last year, while its cost of materials increased 45% to Rs 100 crore. Finance costs, depreciation and amortisation expenses, along with other undisclosed costs, pushed the company's total expenditure to Rs 640 crore during the quarter from Rs 384 crore in Q1 FY26. Despite strong revenue growth, Urban Company slipped to a loss of Rs 92 crore in Q1 FY27, compared to a profit of Rs 7 crore in the year-ago quarter, as it continued to make significant investments in its quick-service housekeeping vertical, InstaHelp. At the end of Friday’s trading session, Urban Company’s shares closed 6% lower at Rs 129.39 compared to the previous closing price, taking the company’s total market capitalization to Rs 19,894 crore ($2.1 billion).
