Investors cash out over $2.77 Bn from Indian tech stocks in August

Indian new-age companies saw substantial secondary market activity in August, with 17 block and bulk deals worth Rs 26,337 crore or $2.77 billion across 12 companies. The deals were largely led by early-stage investors and promoters offloading their holdings, while mutual funds, insurers and global institutional investors emerged as key buyers. Lenskart accounted for the largest share at Rs 7,445 crore across three deals. In the wearable firm, SoftBank sold shares worthRs 2,888 crore, while Alpha Wave offloaded Rs 1,857 crore. In anotherRs 2,700 croreblock deal, BNP Paribas Financial Markets and Societe Generale sold shares, with most of the stake picked up by BlackRock. The transactions saw participation from institutional investors including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, ICICI Prudential and SBI Mutual Fund. Overall, institutional investors have offloaded around Rs 14,200 crore, or $1.5 billion, in Lenskart shares over the last few months.” Paytm followed with two transactions worth nearly Rs 4,986 crore. SAIF Partners and Elevation Capital sold a combined 2.33% stake in One97 Communications for Rs 2,037 crore. Vijay Shekhar Sharma-backed Resilient Asset Management later offloaded a 3% stake for Rs 2,949 crore. SBI Mutual Fund was among the largest buyers in the latter transaction. Groww also saw two large investor exits worth Rs 3,649 crore. Y Combinator sold shares worthRs 1,435 crore, offloading its 1.2% stake, while Ribbit Capital sold shares worthRs 2,217 crore. The transactions came as Groww continued to lead the stockbroking space with 1.31 crore active users and a 28.88% market share as of July 2026. Foodtech and quick commerce platform Eternal also witnessed aRs 3,265 croretransaction, with BNP Paribas Financial Markets and Millennium Management affiliate Integrated Core Strategies (Asia) offloading nearly 10 crore shares. BNP Paribas sold shares worth Rs 1,671 crore, while Integrated Core Strategies sold Rs 1,594 crore worth of shares. Meesho witnessed two investor exits worth Rs 2,919 crore. Peak XV Partners and Elevation Capital sold a combined 2.27% stake forRs 1,949 crore, followed by Y Combinator's Rs 970 crore sale. Several large institutional investors participated in the first transaction, including Societe Generale, Axis Mutual Fund, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Outside these four companies, Hero MotoCorp acquired aRs 1,758 crorestake in Ather Energy from GIC, raising its holding in the electric two-wheeler maker to 32.8%. Unlike most transactions during the month, the deal represented strategic buying rather than an investor exit. PhysicsWallah saw Lightspeed Venture Partners exit its 1.61% stake through aRs 550 croredeal, with ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund emerging as a key buyer. Urban Company saw Accel and VY Capital sell shares worth Rs 428 crore to SBI Mutual Fund. Amagi also recorded a Rs 600 crore transaction involving Accel, Trudy Holdings and AVP Fund.
