Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed22.72 billion transactionsworthRs 28.92 lakh crorein June 2026, as India’s real time payments network continued to maintain monthly transaction volumes above the 22 billion mark. According to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI handled around757 million transactionsa day during the month, while the average daily transaction value stood at approximatelyRs 96,405 crore. The latest figures come after UPI crossed the 23 billion monthly transaction milestone for the first time in May, when it processed23.20 billion transactionsworthRs 29.90 lakh crore. On a month-on-month basis, transaction volume declined2.1%, while transaction value fell3.3%. However, the lower monthly transaction count was also due to the shorter calendar month. WhileMay had 31 days, June had 30, June recorded a higher average daily transaction count of757 million, compared with748 millionin May. At the same daily run rate, June would have processedaround 23.47 billion transactionsin a 31 day month, ahead of May’s record23.20 billiontransactions. On a year-on-year basis, transaction volume increased23%, while transaction value rose20%, reflecting continued expansion of the country’s digital payments ecosystem. UPI processed22.35 billion transactionsworthRs 29.03 lakh crorein April before climbing to a record23.20 billiontransactions worthRs 29.90 lakh crorein May. NPCI has also released the app wise market share data for May.PhonePeretained its lead with46.26%share by transaction volume and49.06%by transaction value.Google Payfollowed with32.75%share by volume and33.54%by value, whilePaytmremained the third largest UPI app with7.91%share by volume and6.66%by value.
