The message from security leaders is pretty simple: rogue AI isn’t going away, so it’s time to figure out how to control it. Meanwhile,lithium-ion batteriesare creating a different kind of safety headache for airlines. A power bank caught fire mid-flight on a recent Las Vegas-bound flight, highlighting why passengers are being warned to keep batteries in the cabin and handle them with care. In just the first six months of 2026, Report Remove, which blocks intimate images from appearing online, received 420 reports from children about fake or manipulated explicit images, which is more than the total for all of 2025. In other news, the Indian government is examining whether Meta’srecommendationalgorithms and paid content promotion are compatible with its status as an intermediary under India’s IT Act. The question is whether a platform that decides “what content is shown to whom” crosses into the role of a publisher, potentially affecting its Section 79 safe-harbour protection. The government has also pressed Meta on deepfakes, child sexual abuse material and unlabelled synthetic content, with further discussions expected.
